The Bible declares that we will not be forsaken by our Lord and my is that ever so true. I am reminiscent of many times when I felt forgotten and forsaken but when I least expected, God stepped in to save the day. Well, the past few days have been those days.
Earlier this year, God entrusted me with a project to help Haiti. So I contacted officials, reps, and schools in Port au Prince and a few non-profit organizations and researched what was needed in regards to donations and what organization needed the most. Since I am a teacher, I know the importance of an education and how it is the most fundamental gift a child can receive, so I sought to help HAITI H.E.R.O. After much prayer, I embarked upon an anthology project entitled, “Hold My Hand” and I advertised on multiple web sites via a call for submissions. Many friends said they would be eager to help and a few strangers felt altruistic, as well but at the end of the day, it was all talk and no play and I had only ONE submission (2 if you count mine, no three if you count my daughter’s, no four if you count my husband’s) and no follow-ups .
Though it seemed as if others did not care and gave up on this endeavor, my heart could not let it go because the children of HAITI H.E.R.O. needed me and my faith. In a nutshell, HAITI H.E.R.O. provides housing and education to the orphans who lost their parents due to the earthquake in January 2010. Imagine how you’d feel to lose your parents and be alone in the world. I’d feel lonely, afraid, and scared. That’s why I could not give up this project. I never gave up on the idea, I just prayed to God to “send” willing vessels who were willing to share their stories to help rebuild a nation nearly destroyed (Haiti). I wanted people who GENUINELY wanted to help and who would stand by their word. I refused to beg people to participate in a matter that had to come from the heart.
With that said, this weekend I received 3 beautiful submissions for “Hold My Hand.” I was moved beyond words because each submission was heartfelt, empowering, and captivating. It was exactly the kind of story I needed to get my point across. The submissions came from entrants from around the world who appeared to waver in their submissions being accepted. I understand what rejection feels like but these submissions were WORTHY of my YES!
With that said, if you, my new AWESOME subscribers/blog readers are interested in healing the world through your story and contributing with your heart, written expression, and pen/keyboard instead of your wallet, then click here for more information and then click here to see the submission requirements and then SUBMIT to this project, as well as SHARE with others who may be interested. Pay it FORWARD! Feel free to contact me at matkins282@gmail.com if you have any questions.
As Anne Frank said, “Despite everything, [...] everyone is good at heart!” So prove her RIGHT and WRITE, SHARE, HEAL!

I used to teach The Diary of Anne Frank and that last line always made some of my students (and me) cry. This is such a great thing you are doing here. Best of luck with it.
